How do I write a mentoring request?

You have found a suitable mentor? Wonderful! Now the next step is to write a mentoring request to this person. Based on your profile data, the mentor decides to accept or decline your request. Therefore, convince with a good concept!

The communication runs via the chat tool of the Mentoring platform, so texts should be kept short. Consider the following points in advance and write them down in a text for the purpose of spell check in e.g. Microsoft Word:

1)   What knowledge of the mentor appeals to me in particular?

2)    Where are similarities and overlaps in our profiles, e.g. studies or majors, special skills, etc.

3)   Emphasize which goals connects you. Example: you also want to work in the industry or in the country in which the mentor has experience.

4)   Also mention key questions that led you to the career mentoring and that can be covered by your mentor.

Dear Ms. Friday,

while looking for a mentor in HR I came across your profile. Like you, I have studied business administration and would now like to deepen my knowledge in the field of human resources. Since I would like to plan my professional future in the HR industry, I have some questions regarding the career entry, useful focal points and additional qualifications. I would be very pleased if I can win you as a mentor for this!
