How do I know if career mentoring is right for me?

As part of the University of Graz's Career Mentoring programme, graduates of the University of Graz pass on their wealth of experience to students and recent graduates to help them make career decisions and enter the world of work.
Sounds promising? Then decide for yourself whether career mentoring is for you:

Step 1: Where do I currently stand?

Step 1: personal assessment

Sounds logical, but as a mentee you should first realise where you currently stand. The progress of your studies plays a key role here. A mentorship makes sense for Bachelor's students, for example, when they start looking for a suitable specialisation for their Master's degree. Or for Master's students who want to gain an insight into the industry in order to better plan their professional career.

Step 2: What questions do I have?

The search for a mentor usually begins when I have questions that I cannot answer myself or my study environment. Career Mentoring, for example, has already provided many mentees with important support in the following considerations:

The path after the Bachelor's degree: should I continue studying or can I find a suitable job with my degree?
Searching for a specialisation: What aspects of my degree are really in demand in practice and where? Which jobs and industries are open to me?
Searching for an internship: In which sector should I look and how do I apply?
Reality check for career ideas: Is the job really as casual as it sounds? What opportunities are open to me?

In short, practical information provides the best answers to all questions relating to choosing a degree programme and starting a career. Who, if not an experienced person who has already gone through these steps, can give a better assessment of what really matters?

Step 3: Read experience reports and decide for yourself

In order to reflect the mood in the mentoring tandems, we have collected a whole series of testimonials from mentees and mentors on our website. This will give you a good insight into the diverse content of mentoring and, above all, how much it supports your own development.

Step 4: Is a suitable mentor available?

No mentoring without the protagonists: So start the search! Even without registering on the platform, you can use the search mask here to see whether a suitable mentor is currently available. This will also allow you to assess for yourself to what extent mentoring makes sense for you at the moment and what added value the wealth of experience listed there can give you at the present time.
