First meeting with your mentor:

What your first mentoring meeting is about

The meeting is the first step in the mentorship process. Here, it is the mentee's task to note down the points discussed for later. The focus is on the following topics:

Content focus

  • What expectations do both sides have of each other?
  • What can the:the mentor:in specifically help?
  • Tip: Set concrete goals whose achievement can be determined at an appropriate time.

Framework conditions of the mentorship

  • How often do we want to meet? In person or online? What time fits ideally?
  • How long should a meeting last? What time resources are available on both sides?
  • How do we communicate in the future or how are both sides reliably reachable?
  • Which completion date we envisage? (between 3 - 12 months)

Sympathy
The actually most essential reason for this first meeting! Only if you find each other sympathetic, the successful work is guaranteed.

A detailed checklist for the get-to-know meeting can be found in the >>> Mentoring Guide.

How long should the interview last?

There is no clear guideline for this. However, we recommend scheduling an appointment of about half an hour to an hour, which you can extend if needed.

And now?

You agree! Congratulations - now it's time for the:the mentee to draft the mentoring agreement - using the points noted in the interview.
